Technology Dissemination

Dissemination of proven technologies by GART is accomplished through a number of channels including:

 1. Field days

farmers are mobilised through the ministry of Agriculture extension network and Conservation Farming Unit (CFU) networks. The farmers are exposed to many agricultural technologies generated by GART and other institutions. Field Days also provide different service providers with an opportunity to show case their products.

2. Seed fairs

Organized in order to allow farmers to meet seed dealers and exchange the necessary knowledge and information on different seed technologies in preparation for the growing season.  Different Agro Dealers are also invited to show case related technologies. The GART seed fair event takes place annually around late October or early November and may be extended to other parts of the country in the near future.

3. Agritech Expo

A partnership event between GART and ZNFU. A business platform for agricultural technologies. The event is conducted to ensure increased uptake of technologies by farmers and includes: crops, livestock and agricultural equipment demonstrations. Free Technical workshops on improved methods of farming. Takes place over three days and attracts mainly commercial farmers, local and international Exhibitors from different countries.

4. Orphan Crops Museum .

Focuses on promotion and seed multiplication of nutritious  indigenous vegetable crops. These are referred to as orphaned because Zambian commercial seed companies don’t usually produce their seed. GART produces and supplies seed of these crops to smallholder farmers. The Orphan Crop Museum also serves as a demonstration and training site for students and farmers.

5. Fore sight Programme

Under which students from agricultural training colleges and universities are attached to GART on short-term periods. They acquire hands-on agricultural experience on crops, livestock, and farm equipment. The foresight programme also supports Secondary School Pupils in Zambia to attain knowledge in agriculture and cultivate an interest in farming systems.
